How long have we known the Earth is round?
A lot of us were taught it was when Columbus, sailed the ocean blue, but that was completely made up by the guy who wrote The Headless Horseman.
Even in Columbus’ day, scholars, merchants, sailors, and clergy knew the Earth was round, and actually laughed at Columbus because of how small he thought the Earth was.
They were just confident the path west to China was really, really, really far away, so why risk it?
And they knew that it was round because they studied the 1600-year-old work Greek mathematicians did that proved it was round and roughly how large it was.
It was such common knowledge, that the way one historian put it was, “no educated person in the history of Western Civilization from the third century B.C. onward believed that the Earth was flat.
So the next time you talk to a flat earther you can tell them the answer to the question…
